Halloween only comes once a year, so it’s important to take advantage of the only day where you can dress up like a crazy person, get candy from everyone, and pull pranks usually without receiving consequences.

Trick-or-treating is about wandering the neighborhood like candy-craving zombies, so don’t let your children be lazy by driving them to every house.

Use canvas shopping bags or pillowcases to trick-or-treat, so you don’t use plastic buckets that you will most likely never use again or find for next year.

When decorating your house for a ghostly party, purchase pumpkins, gourds and other food from local farms and markets. Make sure they are organic and pesticide-free, especially if you are having an apple-bobbing contest.

Creativity can reduce your expenses this Halloween and keep your celebration less wasteful, because one of the scariest things is to watch your money being thrown away.

I am using the leaves in my yard to stuff my kids old clothes with to make "headless" people, or at least they will be holding their heads!
